W4tinybloodzone is a map of mine that is... um, stupid. It'd probably get somewhere around -5 to -10 (a careful estimation...) over at Cranky Steve. After all, it's my first released map.

It's the first map I've ever made that is even remotely of release quality. Which is to say, it doesn't look like complete garbage. My earlier maps were pretty damn small, mostly because q3radiant didn't work properly then. This is not as small, and even has some kind of lighting.

Basically, this map is a yawn-inducing mess of a two-fort deathmatch setup that looks sort of kind of like a very stupid little Quake map. It is very yawn-inducing. If you're looking for really fast-paced shoot-fest and some blatantly obvious places to camp in, this is a great map for you. (As a post-mortem note, the camping addition was not intentional. It sort of happened. I didn't even know this particular camping setup was particularly widespread in newbie maps =)

The map includes bot support (AAS file), which doesn't know anything about camping on said areas. It also includes a levelshot. Whee³.

The following is just garbage from the readme file.

The story so far: Some time ago, I got this crazy idea to install GtkRadiant. It didn't work too well (because it tried to use Mesa OpenGL library instead of NVIDIA OpenGL library...) but I created a crappy start of a map with it. Later I got a new version. It did suck too. Then I noted what was wrong with it and fixed it. Whee.

Of course, none of this gave me any mapping talent. =)

Inspiration:

This map is somewhat Quake-like. I've always wanted to make a Q1 map, but the editors sort of sucked. (Can anyone compile the iD level editor for GNUStep? Heard it's decent.) This map, being an imitation of Q1 map, doesn't use any of those fancy Q3A features like curved brushes and shit.

The second inspiration was the review of "Time Temple" map over at Cranky Steve. Specifically, the bit that goes "so much death do those two rooms serve..." Um, this is a simple map that has two "forts" that "serve up death". Well, provide starting points at least. Deathmatch can't get much more plain and simple than this. Some normal weapons and ammo are available. Some healing bits and armor likewise. If you grab the flight powerup you can snatch the railgun or BFG. [Post release ed. note: Yeah. And camp.]

This is my first "real" map. I do not think it's a complete disaster, so I'm publishing it. As a map, it's bloody simple and small. It may be good for some really, really stupid and to-the-point deathmatch, but if I see this thing actually running on a public server, I question the sanity of the server maintainer...

How to use:

"+set sv_pure 0" enables cheat codes. This may not be desirable. Yet, for some obsure reason, I lose the stone texture that way - the texture is, however, included with Q3A (as textures/stone/pjrock9b_2.tga). Beats me why. If you're such a Guru that you don't need my instructions, You Know What's Wrong and How to Fix It, so I won't tell you how. Or something. I'm now going to bed.

Done in entirety in GtkRadiant 1.2.11 and 1.3.9 in Linux.
