If you are regexping to find newsgroups with "hack" in the name, you should really read some of the current posts before posting anything yourself... The easy solution is to do a search for "personal firewall" on Yahoo or somesuch search engine and install one of the perfectly good free firewalls - fine for personal use. However, the fact remains that you were posting to the wrong newsgroup and you are much more likely to get a more useful reply from posting to a more relevent newsgroup. If you really want to regexp for one try looking for "security" instead of "hack". > want to know > > http://grc.com well, it probes one or two well known (pretty useless) ports, looks at some netBIOS details, and shows how insecure Windows networking is... but it has some useful info for novices, and I found it interesting! :-) > Good read for those who do not know! Indeed it is. Pretty basic for those who do though. > Sorry people this won't happen again. Good... the moral of the story is "look before you leap" where newsgroups are concerned. If you post flagrantly off-topic stuff expect to be flamed. Be thankful you don't appear to be a h4x0r d00d... I pitied the person who had to clean up the mess left after the RGRNCA had had a few words with him... Summing up and verdict: "Jury, Have you reached a verdict?" "We have y'honour." "On the count of being a l4m3r d00d or derivative?" "Innocent." "On the count of flagrantly regexp'ing for "hack" newsgroups?" "Insufficient evidence, and hence innocent... just." "On the secondary charges of failing to comply with basic Usenet RFC's and or netiquette?" "The Jury finds that the accused should have lurked before posting. Hence Guilty" "Due to your apology and justification, and the fact that we are feeling particularly generous this evening, I will let thee off with a caution. Be warned that I take a dim view of any repeat offenders, and should you appear before this court once more, more drastic measures will be taken. The court is now dismissed." Regards, Chris.
