I can think of two possibilities why we didn't get to see the original message or more replies: 1. The poster cancelled the article when she found out it was in an inappropriate newsgroup (not likely, why would she post to this group anyway?) 2. The poster added the line "Distribution: usa" to prevent the message going all over the world, as that would be of little use for a maid in the USA. -- Boudewijn Waijers -- www.win.tue.nl/games/roguelike/ A Elbereth Gilthoniel, silivren penna míriel o menel aglar ellenath! Spam cancellers found and deleted the spam shortly after it was posted. But some folks saw it before it was cancelled and made their reply. 4. You have a "clean feed", and your ISP (or whoever they get their usenet feed from) is sheilding you from a lot of the spam. The people who saw the spam either have a "dirtier" feed, or were closer to the spam source. A lot of spam doesn't get propogated very far in usenet. I normally see the RGRNCA responses without seeing the spam itself. I count myself as lucky. -- Peter Snelling, P.Eng. Until I read Richard Smeltzer's responding post about Jerry Springer, I had no idea it was broadcast in the UK. Why don't we get the UK version? (Without a satellite dish I mean.) The fact that Cody, who pointed out the typo, did not even know for sure what it meant, makes his catching the error even funnier. I will know that NH has gone over the edge when a marilith in Gehennom calls me a "ho" or RodneY yells time to take out a can of whup ass before he summons his "pets." :-) Deborah From MAT7RS@leeds.ac.spamuk.leeds.ac.uk Tue Mar 28 12:34:00 2000 Newsgroups: rec.games.roguelike.nethack Path: ousrvr3.oulu.fi!newsfeed2.funet.fi!newsfeed3.funet.fi!news.kpnqwest.fi!EU.net!npeer.kpnqwest.net!news.maxwell.syr.edu!easynet-tele!easynet.net!server5.netnews.ja.net!leeds.ac.uk!news From: MAT7RS@leeds.ac.spamuk.leeds.ac.uk (Bagpuss) Subject: Re: {RGRNCA]Sexy French MAID in the USA 3763 Message-ID: <2000Mar27.121528.25967@leeds.ac.uk> NNTP-Posting-Host: ing-ntw-25.leeds.ac.uk Organization: University of Leeds, U.K. Date: Mon, 27 Mar 2000 13:15:28 +0100 (BST) References: <20000326225742.02150.00003926@ng-fc1.aol.com> X-Newsreader: News Xpress 2.01 Lines: 47 Xref: ousrvr3.oulu.fi rec.games.roguelike.nethack:104405 deborahrg@aol.com (DeborahRG) wrote: >Dave Whiteside responded to my explanation on a Freudian slip I made: > >>deborahrg@aol.com (DeborahRG) wrote: >> >>> Cody Hatch caught an interesting typographical error in my RGRNCA post >>> responding to spammer and suggesting adding a maid to the NH dungeon: >>> >>> >>> >>> >>Ah, but will she clean out your dungeon???? There's only ever been one UK version of Jerry Springer; a one off special. No idea what it was like. All the worst American shows are broadcast over here, originally by Channel 4, but C5's taking over, which is good because I can't receive it at home. We do get some good US shows of course, like Due South, or is that Canadian? Um ... well I'm sure there's some pearls among the dross. >I will know that NH has gone over the edge when a marilith in Gehennom calls me >a "ho" or RodneY yells time to take out a can of whup ass before he summons his >"pets." :-) Yep, we want some good old English insults; I'm waiting to be called a "pillock" by Rodders or have the quest nemisis tell me to "sod off." -- Richard Smeltzer Ascended: W But it can still be a brighter day, all I need are some cooking utensils and my special party hat...
