Cross-fade to to RGRNCA news studio, where WWWWolf sits behind the desk in RGRNCA uniform.] Good afternoon and welcome to RGRNCA news. It has been a busy month for our troopers. From when RGRNCA officially started their work on 10th April, to 10th May, we intercepted and educated - good heavens - 16 cr3t1nzters. This clearly points out that the RGRNCA is needed. So far, week 19 was the busiest - 6 Cr3t1niZat10ns. We can only hope that the thread started by Jacky "I need to crack this old game 'cuz the new games are too complicated for me" Kan will die soon. After the statistics, let's move to the happier news. The Official rec.games.roguelike.nethack CR3T1NZ Advisory archives have finally opened. The archive was put up so that the users wouldn't need to use the public news archives and search the old strike reports from there. As of 17th May, we already have 53 kilobytes of archived stuff - and that doesn't include the postings that came before the RGRNCA was founded. I hope I will add them to the archive as soon as possible. Uh, hell. I still have some things to polish there, and add some of the pre-RGRNCA strikes there - but it's there, you can use it. And now to other RGRNCA news tidbits. RGRNCA has tolerated Cr3t1nspam long enough. Our normal policy has been "Kill-on-sight after the second offense" - if the cretin humbly stops spewing the crap, I am happy. But times change. New strategy makes things just a little bloodier: - ALL spam arriving to my mailbox will be aborted, spindled, mangled, folded, punched, deleted and deallocated, not to even mention that it will be fed to the NAGS filter or reasonable facsimile of thereof. (I still have a small, albeit just cosmetic, problem with NAGS and Sendmail. Hoki, bring forth the cakedumpd...) - If the cretin cross-posts to more than 5 groups (or less; depends on how angry I am), buh-bye comes at the first offense. This is what God intended, so I will do so. - If the cretin sits behind an address that is invalid (and makes the mail bounce), the cretin is so thick-skulled that I think *he did that on purpose* and as such I will proceed to the punishment phase. Oh yeah, and one last thing: The site is now in Yahoo!, too, or at least it will be soon. I hope. But lo what my eyes see: Sascha's site is not in the Yahoo's Nethack category! 'Tis a great shame, for Sascha's page is the best Nethack page in the existence. Visit the Great Page now! There is a link to there from the RGRNCA archives, too. That's all. Have a nice day, citizens. [Commercial break... well, a propaganda break then, I think] [Picture of a pre-teen nerd, drooling, staring at a monitor, saying "WaR3z! C00l."] ... a CR3T1n. Also known as YACH, M0r0N, C1u3Pr00f C1t1z3N, and so on. A true nethacker's nightmare. These idiots lurk around the group, and eventually, they will post something that causes countless headaches to countless nethackers. [Quick series of images: Army troopers in formation, military saluts, soldiers running between explosions shooting the |/|/ar3z K1dDi3z, and so on...] But the resistance is now here. We're the RGRNCA - and our Mobile Units are duty-bound to do whatever they need to do in order to keep the r.g.r.n free from the evil clutches of CR3T1Nity. [Picture of WWWWolf, pointing at you. Large heading over the picture: "You want these CR3T1NZ dead. Trust me." Text under the picture: "RGRNCA. CR3T1Nism Must Be Eradictated."] Join the fight, and show your support by stomping a CR3T1N per day. The war against the hordes of CR3T1NZ rages on, and one day, we will win. I think that a large part of the CR3T1NZ end up to this group just because of the regexping. Say, if you want to spam HaKK3Rd00dZ groups, you just type "*hack*" (or similiar) to the "Newsgroups" line, type stuff and hit "Post". This would hit all groups with "hack" in them (including r.g.r.n). Some do cross-posting, others multi-post. Some cretins just find an appropriate group with "hack" in it and post there, but they don't seem to check what's before that. You can smell when this happens. For example, if the Newsgroups: line says the message has been crossposted to *.nethack (there are at least two nethack groups) and ...freebsd.hackers (whatever) and zillion other groups with "hack" in them... very simple conclusions. Of course, not many newsreaders (at least those that are the Weapons of Choice of the CR3T1NZ) use regular expression matching, but the technique remains same whether or not the regular expressions are used. - Signed, WWWWolf of rec.games.roguelike.nethack CR3T1NZ advisory (Mobile Unit), Vestrum Excrucibo (Our battlecry: "Wrong Newsgroup, pal!") -- \ \ \ \ / _ | |\ Urpo Lankinen \/\\/\\/\\/\/ (_)| |- ICQ 4291042 FCWm3adm A+ C- D H+ M+ P R+ T++ W- Z Sm RLU a18 cl+++ d- e f h* i++ p- sm . Some actually realize that they can be flamed and thus they mask their identity.
