Heading to the uncharted territory...

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I have a bunch of stories in the making, and I really really really need to just stop and make some sense of this whole big mess I'm in. I'm in danger of stagnation. I've tried to break the habit by writing a lot of stuff completely unrelated to Avarthrel... and it has helped somewhat. I think I'll get a few stories done this summer! Life is good again!

I really need to get the stories going. Some might say that writing stories is about going to a new unexplored and uncharted territory, but my problem is, I'm already in the uncharted territory and I bloody well should have made a map of this incident.

On a completely unrelated note, here's a drawing of mine that I finished today, incidentally also about heading to uncharted territory - Quirierle hunting an unspecified monster. Also testing deviantART embedding...

Progress, it seems

Whoa.

The newest story I was working on was 99% finished in Friday. It was picked up this week by a friend who promised to read through it.

This story was in works through the holidays, and made slow progress in the last few months.

What makes it so weird is that I never thought I'd make some arbitrary word limit, like 8000 words. I mean, the previous stories had a good length, right?

And suddenly, when I'm stumbitting it to a friend, I'm looking at a 11000-plus-some word monster.

And distressingly, my memory was as holey as it was: wc -w templeofleetness.txt (the actual file name of Hidden Horrors of Megyntia, incidentally) is 3847 words. Erm, I wonder where I came up with that ludicruous 8000-word limit?

Anyway, I hope to get comments from my friends soon enough; the new story might then be out by next week. I'll probably need to tweak it anyway.

Insignificant diddling

So what have I accomplished over the last few days? Nothing of substance. Oh, substance all right, but not particularly interesting substance.

Avarthrel web site got absolutely no visible changes. Well, small visible changes, if you take the meaning normally. "Visible" in this case meaning "actually new content". The changes were all under the hood: There site is now based on Smarty templating system, which helps me manage the content's formatting and editability better. Sure as hell made life with the NWN site easier, hope this will make the site updates easier too!

Today, I also wrote a new feature for the site, a small Ruby script that does, wow, comments. Yep, you can now comment on the stories on this site.

Now my greatest problem is producing actually more stuff for the site.

Update: Wow. Just looked at the blog's article history and found someone's been linkspamming shit. I think the fact that I used "an evil SEO corporation" as an example when making the comment script was somewhat... premonitious in nature. =) Hmm, Typo really needs an option to delete comment spam en masse...
