Avarthrel

An another world, with a bit different kind of ways...

Avarthrel... a world where fantastic forces are at work. Skilled magicians devise new and exciting ways to utilise the magical forces around the planet. Humans strive for everyone's peace and well-being... more or less. Amazing scientific and technological discoveries are made by both humans and elves every now and then. Monsters of various sorts looking for an easy dinner in the deep woods. Gods are meddling with matters of the mortals. Indeed, the whole fantasy-with-very-light-steampunk-stuff is right here. (More introductionary words...)

Avarthrel... is a Fantasy World. Rarely, more truer words have been spoken: The real reason why Avarthrel exists at all is that I wanted to write heroic fantasy. I don't know why; I just did. Probably out of a desire to work on an open fantasy world? Probably out of my desire to rewrite all that pathetic fantasy stuff I wrote when I was a kid? The reasons are many. Later, I've dabbled a little bit in worldbuilding and I've noted the world could be suited for many things; the thing lends itself to drama, romance, comedy, adoration of mysterious inventions and especially good old-fashioned orc-killing and looting some ruins. Well, I'm basically making things up as I go, but it seems to work. Hello? Where did you go?

In these web pages, which regrettably don't have much of interesting introductionary material, you will find some of the stories I've written. Some of these are not so good, but I'm quite happy with the others. Remember, I'm just an amateur who most certainly can't afford an editor. I don't think these things are completely awful though. I'm learning as I go. Since I'm obviously not the Greatest Flawless Author Ever Lived, feedback of any kind is always appreciated. You can leave publicly readable comments on any story here, or use the feedback form to leave private comments.

Stories

Tales of thieves...
(Anchorfall, ca. 624—627 AR)

These stories will chart the deeds of the Shadowhawks, a group of honourable thieves in the great city of Anchorfall. Most often, they focus on two of them: Faira Ativel, a former Privateer, and Lex Egrain, a... well, a thief, for the lack of better descriptor.

The Worrying Exploits of The Company
(Anchorfall, ca. 630 AR)

After the Great Revolution of Varmhjelm and the successive massive war against the invaders, three of the heroes – Faira Ativel, Facyr Tann and Gnedrnygr Adithebadoggr, a Rogue, Mercenary and Mage respectively – had absolutely nothing better to do, so they started adventuring. And, of course, they also enjoyed occasional breaks from the monotony of thrilling adventures and met interesting new people...

Not so good stuff...

And finally, thanks...

A lot of people deserve thanks for helping me with comments, critique and indirect help. Regrettably, I'm really coffeed and can't list them all here; random thanks go to my friend Avarice and my sister for comments, folks from aukea.net for good comments and critique (regrettably disappeared, now), people like Cathy who actually noticed this site, and all other wonderful people out there who at least considered the possibility that this might actually be worth the time... =)
