Holy crap, I really kept dodging bullets here. Probably the most annoying kernel upgrade in - uh - this decade or so.

Basically, this is the first time in at least a decade when Linux just straight up refused to boot. Had to upgrade depmod, initramfs-tools, even procps and other fun tools.

And the bloody X11! GDM3 apparently has some rather peculiar failure modes these days. And I think this ancient USB hub of mine is doing some really weird things and needs to be put to the pasture - plugging my old mouse to the hub made X11 really freak out to the max. But still, GDM3 is a pretty big memory hog and I think I’ll switch to LightDM.

I originally wanted to upgrade the kernel because I was having some peculiar things happening with my devices. I was able to burn a DVD, but after that, the CD drive just straight up refused to work, even eject the disc. I have no idea what’s going on, but at least USB mass media drivers seem to work now in 3.7 - I decided to go forth and burn some old video project files to DVD, and import a year and a couple of gigabytes worth of photographs from my camera to the disc.

Not worried about a few reboots. I’m finally getting more more memory soon so I need to reboot soon anyway. Better make sure everything is ship-shape.
